1.25" Indigo Dyed Leather Quick Release Belt with Solid Brass or Nickel Plated Hardware - Made to Order

The "Firefighter" Quick Release buckle was never actually used to hold up the fireman's pants, but rather, to keep the firehoses wrapped up. The quick release action allowed the firemen to quickly undo the buckle and gain access to the hose, when even a couple extra seconds could mean saving a life.

These buckles are functional, practical, and make a stylish fashion statement, all while telling a story.

The tension of the buckled belt will keep the buckle together, simply press down on the lever, and the buckle will come undone, allowing you to quickly remove the belt.

Handmade to order with full grain leather and raw brass hardware. The buckle and belt keeper are secured with solid brass Chicago Screws, and are removable with a simple flat head screwdriver should you ever have the need. I bevel and burnish the edges with water before the dyeing process and then again after the dyeing process with natural bees wax which give the edges a very smooth hand feel.

This particular belt has been hand dyed by myself with natural indigo, using traditional methods. I start with a natural veg tanned full grain leather belt, and dip dye it into a vat of natural indigo dye. After the first coat, the belt needs to oxidize, which is what turns the dye from a clear yellow/green, into the deep dark blue that we know and love. Finally, the belt goes through another two coats of dye.

*There will be variation in indigo tone; different leathers react differently with the indigo dye. The first picture would be the most accurate representation of color.

The result is gorgeous; the grain in the leather shows through the indigo dye, and the color has so many dimensions. This belt is sure to form a wonderful patina overtime. Be warned that because this is natural indigo, though rinsed and oiled with jojoba oil, it will likely "crock" a bit (the indigo will rub off slightly), this is the nature of indigo, and it's why jeans fade over time. I recommend wearing with blue denim, and avoiding white shirts for several wears or perhaps even all together. Anyone who is familiar with raw denim will know what to expect.

To order this belt, please measure one of your old belts using the diagram pictured above. The system that I use is the most accurate method of measurement, and involves measuring from the end of the buckle prong, to the hole that fits you best (this method accounts for any difference in length between your buckle and mine). You can add your measurement in the comments section at the end of your ordering process, or you can shoot me a message thereafter. Allow 2 weeks for completion.
